Who operates DanceScribe

DanceScribe is operated by Start Smooth LLC (“Start Smooth,” “we,” “us” or “our”). Questions and privacy requests can be sent to evan@startsmooth.io.

Information we handle

• Account information: name, email address, authentication details, role, studio relationships and notification preferences.
• Teaching information: student and instructor profiles, schedules, goals, practice assignments, lesson notes, messages and relationship invitations.
• Lesson recordings and generated material: audio you choose to record, transcripts, summaries, lesson markers, recaps and practice direction.
• Service information: device and browser details, IP address, usage events, delivery status, error logs and security records.

How we use information

We use information to:

• provide scheduling, recording, transcription, recap, messaging and practice tools;
• keep lesson material available to the people authorized for that relationship;
• generate lesson-scoped summaries, suggestions and answers;
• deliver account, lesson and security communications;
• detect abuse, troubleshoot failures and improve reliability; and
• comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell personal information or use lesson recordings for behavioral advertising.

Recording and consent

The person who starts a recording must tell everyone being recorded and obtain any consent required by applicable law, studio policy or agreement. Recording laws vary by location. Do not record a lesson when required consent has not been obtained.

How information is shared

We share information only as needed:

• Within DanceScribe: with instructors, students and studio administrators authorized for the relevant teaching relationship.
• With service providers: vendors that host the service, process audio and generated material, deliver email, support authentication or help us monitor reliability. They may use information only to provide those services to us.
• For safety or legal reasons: when reasonably necessary to protect people, prevent abuse, comply with law or respond to valid legal process.
• Business changes: if DanceScribe is involved in a financing, acquisition, reorganization or sale, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

Retention and deletion

We retain information while an account or teaching relationship is active and as needed to provide the service, recover failed work, meet legal obligations and resolve disputes. Different material may have different retention periods. You can request deletion by contacting us. We may retain limited records when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance or backups that cycle out over time.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may be able to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent. You can also change notification preferences in DanceScribe. Send requests to evan@startsmooth.io. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Children

DanceScribe is not directed to children under 13, and they may not create their own accounts. Do not submit personal information about a child under 13 unless Start Smooth has expressly enabled an appropriate parent or guardian process. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it when required.

Security and international processing

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as DanceScribe changes. We will update the effective date and, when a change materially affects your rights, provide additional notice where appropriate.
